Hong Kong's Chief Executive, together with the Executive Council, approved today (18th) the establishment of Hong Kong's third medical school by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The government aims to welcome the first batch of 50 medical students in 2028. Lo Chung-mau, Secretary for Health, disclosed that HKUST was chosen because of its clear strategic positioning, broad global vision, and solid financial capability. HKUST's investment in infrastructure and operational funding for the medical school over the next 25 years will be nearly at a one-to-one ratio against the government's contribution.
