Xi Jinping Emphasizes Minimizing Casualties in No.5 Alarm Fire at Wang Fuk Court

The death toll in the No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po, Hong Kong, increased to 44, including one firefighter. Chinese President Xi Jinping placed great importance on the accident, promptly understanding the fire rescue and casualties, reported Xinhua News Agency.

He instructed the head of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong in SAR to convey his condolences to Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee for the victims and the fallen firefighter, and his sympathies to the families of the deceased and those affected by the disaster.

He urged the the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR to support the Hong Kong SAR government in fully extinguishing the fire, making every effort in personnel rescue, treatment of the injured, and post-disaster comfort. Relevant departments and localities are to provide necessary assistance to minimize casualties and losses.
