<H Shrs>HSI Ends Midday Up by 559Pts on Techs; Chip Concepts Speculated

Hong Kong bourse fared well on the first trading day of the new year, fueled by the AI chip boom, as CNH set a new high since May 2023. The HSI opened 86 points higher, and then with extended gains, it shot up as much as 593 points to peak at 26,224. It closed the midday up 559 points or 2.2% at 26,189. The HSCEI spiked 201 points or 2.3% to end at 9,115. The HSTECH added 186 points or 3.4% to settle at 5,702. The total turnover for the morning session was HK$76.869 billion. Domestic GPU manufacturer BIREN TECH (06082.HK) debuted on the Hong Kong stock market, closing at HK$33.8, 72.4% above its listing price of HK$19.6. It peaked at HK$42.88, with a turnover of HK$4.655 billion. HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK) finalized its A-share issuance to raise RMB7.556 billion. The stock rallied 9.9%. SMIC (00981.HK) surged 4.9%. BIDU-SW (09888.HK), which developed Kunlunxin, jumped up 7.5%. Some robotics concept stocks drifted higher, with UBTECH ROBOTICS (09880.HK) up 3%, SANHUA (02050.HK) and MINTH GROUP (00425.HK) up 6.4% and 5% respectively. As to other techs, TENCENT (00700.HK), BABA-W (09988.HK), JD-SW (09618.HK), KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK), and BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) swelled 2.6-3.2%.
