Regarding China's announcement to cancel the VAT export tax rebate for products such as photovoltaics, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) viewed reducing the export tax rebate for lithium batteries as a significant move that could prompt China's export product prices to return to reasonable levels, address some international concerns, and alleviate trade frictions. Looking forward to 2026, Cui Dongshu estimated that the demand for new energy batteries would nosedive QoQ at the beginning of the year. Battery makers should scale back production and take holidays to respond to demand fluctuations. Cui also predicted the export of new energy passenger vehicles to remain decent at the beginning of this year, but the demand for batteries from independent battery suppliers wouldn't be substantially driven. Meanwhile, the US energy storage demand wouldn't have an obvious pull on Chinese battery exports, as this year's battery exports to the US are unlikely to recover from the rout last year.
