Alibaba recently established a joint venture with China National Nuclear Power (CNNP), with an investment amount of approx. US$35.9 million, CLSA published a research report saying. Although this investment is relatively small compared to Alibaba's planned US$53 billion AI capital expenditure over the next few years, it reflects the Chinese tech giant's active exploration of highly efficient and stable energy support for its advanced AI models to maintain its advantage in the AI competition with the US. The broker believed that China is a global leader in nuclear power plant deployment, and is expected to remain so in the coming years. However, it is noted that China has not focused on fourth-generation nuclear technology as much as the US hyper scalers.
